I have 2 very short pieces, Meena (directed by Kate Gaul) and Going for Gold (directed by Michelle Miall), in Asylum, Apocalypse Theatre Company’s quick-response season of new Australian works that explore what it means to seek asylum.

3—15 February
The Old 505 Theatre
505/342 Elizabeth Street
Surry Hills

Some 20+ playwrights from across the country (including my fellow 7-ONer Hilary Bell) have contributed scripts of varying length, theatrical style and point of view. The season runs for 12 nights over 2 weeks. It comprises 5 different programs with each program played 3 times over the fortnight. More info here.

All box office earnings will be donated to the Asylum Seekers Centre in Newtown and the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre in Melbourne. So you not only get to see some quick-response performance works by established, emerging and new playwrights, but you also get to support 2 organisations doing great work on behalf of refugees and asylum-seekers.

Look, I know that protesting against the Australian government’s treatment of asylum-seekers often feels like painting the wind, but it is important to keep speaking out, and iniatives like Asylum are a great way to voice our outrage.
