Playing Awkward

9 August 2014

Currency Press have launched Cue the Chorus. With funding from CAL Currency’s digital projects person, Toby Leon, commissioned 10 contemporary playwrights to write essays in response to classic or other well-known Australian plays. It was a great brief because it was so open—each writer could tackle the task as we wished. There was no set style or approach or even length. The plays we‘ve written about feature on the high school drama syllabus and are studied as part of university literature and/or theatre courses, but our 10 responses will also appeal to a wider readership.

The play I was asked to write about was Dorothy Hewett’s The Chapel Perilous. My essay is called Playing Awkward, you can download it—and any of the others for free—in these formats:

PDF
mobi (for Kindles)
ePub (for iPads and most other e-readers)
