Opening on Thursday 23 May is the premier production of Third Person. Directed by Tom Gutteridge, the play is being produced at Melbourne’s Union House Theatre (corner of Tin Alley & Union Road, Melbourne University, Parkville). The season runs from 23 May to 1 June at 7:30 pm, with a matinee on Friday 31 May at 11:00 am.

Third Person, which takes place in the ruins of Berlin in the winter of 1946/7, was short-listed for the 2011 Griffin Playwriting Award. Here’s the blurb:

‘At the same time it is a post-modern sequel to Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice. In a playfully savage comment on displacement and loss, Third Person mixes eras, cultures, music and sex to remind us how close we always are to war, exile and disaster.’

The production features an original score as part of the action. Composed by Ashlee Clapp, you can read an interesting interview with her here.
